Yves Saint Laurent is dead. It resonated a little bit on me as I remember accompanying an old friend of ours who collects hand bags and who considers herself a "fashionista". She’s a great dresser and very generous by the way. Along with Gucci, and another brand I can’t remember, Yves Saint Laurent was one of the brands that we checked. For me, the price tag on everything in the store was way up there in the atmosphere. I don’t think I can ever justify myself into getting something from them for myself. I may buy something for the wife though, if I win the lotto.
From the web, the Saint Laurent brand carries ready-to-wear clothes, shoes, jewelry, belts, leather goods, hand bags, sunglasses and is aimed at the luxury good market. It is one of the most recognizable fashion brand in the world. The Yves Saint Laurent clothing has for decades been known for its refined and modern elegance. Decades before Giorgio Armani, the Saint Laurent clothing glamorized for women some items taken from the male wardrobe, such as the blazer, the tuxedo, the pant suit and the leather jacket.
Yves Saint Laurent is definitely one of the giants in the world of high fashion. With other top French fashion icons like Coco Chanel and Christian Dior, he helped make Paris become one the top fashion capital of the world. He will surely be missed. He died today, June 1, 2008, after suffering from a long illness.
