Popular Philippine action star Rudy Fernandez dies of periampullary cancer at his home in Quezon city early Saturday morning. The actor, popularly known as “Da Boy” has been battling periampullary cancer for more than two years. Periampullary cancer is a cancer that forms near the ampulla of Vater (an enlargement of the ducts from the liver and pancreas where they join and enter the small intestine).

He was confined for a month from Cardinal Santos Medical Center and passed away five days after being brought home. Close friends, actors and senators, Jinggoy Estrada and Bong Revilla broke the news to the media after his passing. His wife and close friends were with him as a he moved on. The actor is survived by his wife, Philippine actress, Lorna Tolentino and his three sons, Rap, Renz and actor Mark Anthony. Sen. Bong Revilla revealed that Rudy Fernandez suffered from internal bleeding for several days and was glassy-eyed most of the time.

Rudy Fernandez was born March 3, 1953 in Manila and started appearing in movies at age three. He is one of the Philippine’s foremost action star. He first gain fame from his role portraying a notorious criminal ,”Baby Ama”. He then established himself as a big name in this genre. He starred in 65 films throughout his career and won two FAMAS best actor trophies, the Philippine equivalent of Hollywood’s Oscars, for the 1984 film “Batiugas…Pasukuin si Waway” and the 1988 “Victor Corpus” biopic.
