Happy 4th of July to all of our American friends! Specially to those who are currently serving in the Armed Forces and are fighting the war on terror on foreign soil. Today is America’s Independence Day and I wish you all a happy holiday!

I used to live in the States before I moved up here in Canada. I lived in the New York City Area and I always enjoy the 4th of July holiday when I was there. I remember going out with friends and have some barbeque under the summer sun. I remember going shopping on outlet malls. I remember watching live and seeing the Nathan’s hotdog eating contest result and winner Kobayashi that year. The event is held every 4th of July at Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York. By the way, this year’s contest is televised by ESPN at 12 p.m. EDT. Oh well, those were the days! I love my stay in the States. I may probably come back in the future. Interestingly, I find Americans more friendly than Canadians.

4th of July Fireworks!
Yes, the fireworks are really the main event of every 4th of July celebration. We used to go to Manhattan to watch the Macy’s annual firework show. Fireworks are often accompanied by patriotic songs such as the “The Star-Spangled Banner” (national anthem), “God Bless America”, “America the Beautiful”, “Stars and Stripes Forever”. For those looking for information regarding this year’s Macy’s fireworks in NYC, it will start at 9PM. See below the info I found on Macy’s website:

Where to catch Macy’s fireworks live
Manhattan: Southbound lanes of the FDR drive from 14th to 42nd Street will be open for the public from 7:30pm to 10:00pm. On-ramp entrances for pedestrians (including the disabled) are located at 23rd, 38th, and 42nd streets. The FDR Drive will be closed to vehicular traffic between Houston St. and 63rd St. from 7:00pm until 1:00am.

Brooklyn/Queens: Great views from Hunter’s Point, Queens, Greenpoint, Brooklyn, and anywhere with an unobstructed view of the East River between 23rd & 42nd Sts.

Watercraft: All spectator vessels in the East River must stay south of the Williamsburg Bridge or north of the Southernmost tip of Roosevelt Island. Vessels in Newton Creek should stay east of the Pulaski Bascule Bridge. For additional information, mariners should contact Macy’s Marine Hotline at (212) 494-5247.

For more information regarding the fireworks, call Macy’s Hotline at (212) 494-4495.

Additional Notes on the 4th of July Holiday
America celebrates July 4 as Independence Day because it was on July 4, 1776, that members of the Second Continental Congress, meeting in Philadelphia, adopted the final draft of the Declaration of Independence. Today, families often celebrate Independence Day with a picnic or barbecue, and take advantage of the day off and in some years, long weekend to gather with relatives.

Again, I wish my American friends, a

Happy 4th of July!

I also love to watch the Macy’s firework festivities in New York every 4th of July. This year according to CNN, New Yorker’s will be treated with the nation’s largest Independence Day fireworks display. I’m looking forward to that!
