It’s really sad to hear of a tragedy like this one. Before there was the tsunami in Indonesia, then the more recent cyclone in Myanmar and now the earthquake in China. Just can’t imagine what the feeling is for those parents who lost their children in the collapsed school building. It’s been said that as many as 10,000 of those killed in the May 12 earthquake were children. Sometimes, you got to ask yourself, why tragedies like these comes to those who are most innocent.

After the main quake comes the series of aftershocks which caused thousands of homes to collapse. Roads were damaged, old buildings were toppled. Meanwhile, it was reported that a lake created by landslides is threatening to burst and flood the low areas. Chinese authorities are now rushing to drain it so it doesn’t cause another tragedy. I just can’t imagine how the survivors are feeling with all of these events coming their way. I’ve experienced a strong earthquake myself and it’s scary as hell. It’s traumatizing. A week after the quake, I remember mistaking the shaking of the chair I sat on as another earthquake. It kinda made me paranoid for awhile.

At this stage, it seems that the likelihood of finding more survivors is dwindling and Chinese officials are now shifting their focus toward the survivors and the thousands made homeless by the quake. No more news of rescues has come out. Survivors are being evacuated from the low-lying areas to the higher grounds. Other countries have also sent in their aids and express support for the relief efforts.

The Importance of Positive Thinking in the Face of Tragedy

Being positive and thinking positive is very important in times of tragedy. Sometimes, you’ve got to shove through the clouds to see the sun. The difference between people’s attitude will determine how survivors will be able to cope up after everything settles down. Some, especially those who have lost some love ones, will forever remain trapped and won’t be able to move on, making their life another tragedy. This should not happen as life should be enjoyed to the fullest. We’ve got to look towards a brighter future even if there is pain that lingers in our hearts. We need to be able to leave the past behind and face the future with a positive attitude. It won’t be easy at first but it can be done. Sometimes, all we need is time to heal the wounds created by the past.
