Earthquake
An earthquake is the result of a sudden release of energy in the Earth’s crust that creates seismic waves. Earthquakes are recorded with a seismometer, also known as a seismograph. The moment magnitude of an earthquake is conventionally reported, or the related and mostly obsolete Richter magnitude, with magnitude 3 or lower earthquakes being mostly imperceptible and magnitude 7 causing serious damage over large areas. Intensity of shaking is measured on the modified Mercalli scale.

At the Earth’s surface, earthquakes manifest themselves by a shaking and sometimes displacement of the ground. When a large earthquake epicenter is located offshore, the seabed sometimes suffers sufficient displacement to cause a tsunami. The shaking in earthquakes can also trigger landslides and occasionally volcanic activity.

Hope that there are no damages to property or loss of lives from this earthquake in LA.

“IPhone 3G had a stunning opening weekend” said Steve Jobs. The iPhone 3G was launched simultaneously in 21 countries. The launching included the U.S. and Japan. Two of the biggest mobile market in the world. Although plagued with software issues due to the mass number of simultaneous activation, still, Apple fans braved the long lines just to get their hands on this new toy from Apple.

Since she first started blogging February of last year, Olive Riley had posted more than 70 entries on her blog. She had lived through two world wars and had three children. Olive is from Woy Woy, New South Wales, Australia and was born in 1899. According to her great grandson, Darren Stone, “She had people communicating with her from as far away as Russia and America on a continual basis, not just once in a while,” and she enjoyed it. He told the national AAP news agency.

Our dear friend Olive Riley passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 12. She will be mourned by thousands of Internet friends and hundreds of descendants and other relatives.

Skype and VOIP
In the next few years, VOIP will replace the landline phone. No doubt about that. Skype is arguably the leader in VOIP PC to PC phone calls right now. In addition to its free PC to PC calls, it has a lot to offer to consumers like the Skype-In and Skype-Out plans and the cheap subscription plans like Unlimited US & Canada for $2.95/month, Unlimited Mexico for $5.95/month and Unlimited World for $9.95/month. Note that unlimited is subject to a fair usage policy (which really makes it not an unlimited plan). Most providers do this marketing trick.

In summary, the Logitech cordless skype phone is a good phone for Skype users who would like to untangle themselves from their headset and be able to walk around while talking with friends. It’s not too expensive and there are deals on the internet to get this phone cheaply if you know how to look (think Ebay, Amazon )

It was one of those side trips that are unplanned. We head to Langley to visit the lavender festival and just overheard a conversion between co-tourists who were planning to go to Krause farm afterwards. It was close and it was still early so we decided to go to Krause farm and see it for ourselves.

Heading to Krause Berry Farms
If you’re coming from the Fraser Highway, Krause Farm is on the left side on 248 st. I actually missed it as I didn’t notice their sign. Once you enter, you have to pass a short dirt road to go to the parking lot but you can actually see the berry farm already from there. On a side note, there’s a pine tree farm on the left which I think sells Christmas trees during the holiday. As I’ve never seen a Christmas tree farm before, I kinda enjoyed its sight.

Strawberry, Raspberry and Blueberries at Krause Farms
It was two-thirds the season already for strawberries when we visited. It means that a lot of them have already been picked. I always like picking at the start of the season as I think I can get the better berries during that time.

When we arrived, we saw lots of people with bucketful of strawberries. Since we already picked strawberries on a different BC farm two weeks back, and our only reason to come to Krause is to just nose around and pass by since it is on the way, we were pleasantly surprised to know that the raspberry picking season has started. No, I have never picked raspberries ever before and so was a little excited. They gave us a small carton where we can place the raspberries and off we went to the raspberry trees to start picking. The trees are about 5 1/2-feet in height and they are gorgeously filled with raspberries. I tried one, two, three and God knows how many more raspberries. They are so so good. It was great. Nothing really compares to eating a freshly picked raspberry.

Donkees, Horses, Corn Pizza at Krause Farms
There are other side attractions at Krause Farms aside from the berry picking. If you have a kid like I do, they have a small playground for kids to play in. They also have donkees and horses. My two-year old actually enjoyed looking at the donkees but was scared with the big horses. For food lovers, you can try their corn pizza. Never had a corn pizza so we tried it and it was really good. Two thumbs up!

Going back for the Farmer’s Festival (July 20)
The weekend was great. It surely was a good time spent with the family and we are planning to come back as there is a farmer’s festival on July 20, 2008. On this day, other local farmers will join them. It sure sounds like another good family weekend.

If you’re in the area, I’d definitely recommend visiting Krause Farm in Langley, BC.

Everyone plans for a good marriage but sometimes divorce can happen. Christie Brinkley said that her dream of a big happy family disappeared as she claims to have discovered her husband cheating on her with a very young assistant of his (Diana Bianchi) in addition to his expensive Internet porn addiction. Now, another woman is coming into the scene, Bridget Nisivoccia. Ms. Nisivoccia though is denying the accusations as she maintains that their relationship is purely professional. I’m sure that her quiet life will change as reports going around is saying that her name will come up in the divorce trial this week. A source told The Daily News that another witness discussed about Nisivoccia’s connection to Cook.

Hope the children are shielded from this mess
Husband and wife Christie Brinkley and Peter Cook have two children, Jack is 13, and Sailor Lee is 10. I’m not sure why they just couldn’t settle the custody behind the scene but I do hope that the kids are Ok. Divorce is ugly. In addition to the expense of hiring divorce lawyers, there is an emotional price for the family to pay. I do hope both parents will be given the chance to do parenting duties to the kids even if the other doesn’t have full custody.

Are there more affairs after Bridget Nisivoccia?
The trial has uncovered stuff about Peter Cook that are no good. He seems to have been portrayed as a sex addict. After Diana, and now Bridget, how many more will come out? Ms. Brinkley’s lawyer mentioned that the affair with Diana Bianchi is just the tip of the iceberg.

I’ve been looking for a portable GPS for quite awhile now and it seems the NAVIGON 2100 fits the bill. I like its specs and the available features suits me especially the text to speech functionality. It seems slim and easy to use at 3.5″. As a frugal buyer, I also do my research on the net and go on the local electronic shop just so I can look and feel the sturdiness of the product. But, usually, I end up buying on the net as it always seem cheaper. I like that this particular GPS Navigator seems to have a brilliant touchscreen display. It also comes with spoken turn-by-turn directions including street names and other features like Reality View which provides realistic 3D map view of complex intersections. It also comes preloaded with the map of continental US. This is a concern for me as I live in Canada. Another GPS product from Navigon contains a full package of both US and Canadian map so I would assume I can have the Canadian map as an add-on. I may have to pay extra or maybe, they’ll have it included free on Canadian local and net retailers. That’s something I have to check. The NAVIGON 2100 runs on the Microsoft Windows CD Net 5.0 operating system and you’ll need a PC to use additional map data.

German based Navigon is a well-known GPS brand. From their literature, the company seems to be have an impressive resume. Navigon has been a leader of GPS navigation since 1991. NAVIGON created the world’s first dynamic personal GPS product in 1996, launched the industry’s first navigation software for the Pocket PC in 2000, and unveiled the first Traffic Message Channel-based (TMC) avoidance feature on mobile navigation product in 2002.

I think its time for me to head to the local Best Buy store and see if I’ll be impressed with the Navigon 2100 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator.
