“Clearly, I sound like an idiot” said actress Sharon Stone on Thursday evening in an interview in LA about her remark regarding karma and the China earthquake. The remark raised an uproar as expected. In China, people were definitely angered and called it "inappropriate" and "insensitive". Because of the comment, she and her films are now permanently banned at the Shanghai International Film Festival. Also, China’s largest cinema chain is also banning her films for life. If you, look at the video at YouTube, you’ll see lots of comments (probably mostly from the Chinese community) showing their outrage.
Meanwhile, French fashion design house, Christine Dior, where Ms Stone works as one of its most recognized spokesperson and model, pulled out its advertisements in China that feature Ms Stone. Dior, one of the world’s top fashion brand, fearing a consumer backlash quickly distanced itself from the actress. For the luxury good industry, China is one of its fastest-growing markets. Dior said that Ms. Stone who promotes the brand’s anti-ageing skin care line, among other products, would no longer appear in its ads in China. It’s a good business move on their part as who will buy their expensive make-ups, bags, skin care line if they have probably the "hatest" person alive in China as their model.
Sharon Stone has since acknowledged that she misspoke and apologize.
