Rummaging through my old pile of notebooks, I came upon an old notebook where I wrote down poems from different poets and artists back in high school and college. I used to read a lot of poetry at that time. Indeed, time flies so fast. One of the poem I really like is by David Cortez Medalla and its called Envoi.

ENVOI.

Open the window.
Close the book.

Do not shake your fists against the wind.
Let the wind claim the candle for its bride.
Let the darkness dissolve this room and its memories.
Listen ... It's the voice of your childhood singing in the branches --

Open the window.

Close the book.

About David Cortez Medalla:
The poet is a Filipino artist based in Britain and a pioneer of avant-garde art movements such as minimalism and performance arts. I couldn’t find a biography of him but I found this interview of David with Gavin Jantjes in London on a book launching.

What is Envoi? (the word)
In poetry, an envoi is a short stanza at the end of a poem used either to address an imagined or actual person or to comment on the preceding body of the poem.

Hi, the poem of David is a rare find for me. How can I cite this for my essay on David Medalla and your brief note on the poem?

Thanks.

Danny

@Danny - As far as I remember I got the poem from a book that compiled English poetry by Filipino authors. It was way back in the 80’s. I wish I could give you the title but I just don’t remember it now.
