“Clearly, I sound like an idiot” said actress Sharon Stone on Thursday evening in an interview in LA about her remark regarding karma and the China earthquake. The remark raised an uproar as expected. In China, people were definitely angered and called it "inappropriate" and "insensitive". Because of the comment, she and her films are now permanently banned at the Shanghai International Film Festival. Also, China’s largest cinema chain is also banning her films for life. If you, look at the video at YouTube, you’ll see lots of comments (probably mostly from the Chinese community) showing their outrage.
I’ve been watching the developments on bisphenol A (BPA) when I read that a US lawsuit was filed against Playtex Products Inc. by a certain Ashley Campbell. As reported in the news, the lawsuit seeks nationwide (US) class action status to represent what it says are thousands of people who bought plastic bottles containing the chemical from Playtex or other companies. According to the lawsuit, Playtex has failed to adequately disclose that its plastic bottle products are formulated using the chemical. It seeks damages to be determined at trial and a finding that the company violated the law. Campbell says she bought Playtex’s plastic bottles unaware that they were formulated with or contained BPA.
It’s really sad to hear of a tragedy like this one. Before there was the tsunami in Indonesia, then the more recent cyclone in Myanmar and now the earthquake in China. Just can’t imagine what the feeling is for those parents who lost their children in the collapsed school building. It’s been said that as many as 10,000 of those killed in the May 12 earthquake were children. Sometimes, you got to ask yourself, why tragedies like these comes to those who are most innocent.
I just have to blog about this as I hope that those who are using plastic baby bottles with BPA (bisphenol A) to feed their babies should stop it immediately. I know of the Avent brand, which my two-year old has been using, was already taken off the shelves here in Canada. It has BPA. If you are using a different brand and don’t know if it has BPA, call the manufacturer to make sure. I don’t think it is banned in the States or in other countries yet. Canada it seems is the first country to regulate and limit the use of this chemical.
Canadian politics is rather dull. Let me repeat. Canadian politics is rather dull.
Does the world know anything about Stephen Harper, the current prime minister of Canada? or does the world even care about who Stephane Dion is? I even had to Google his name because I forgot. In addition, party nominations here don’t really excite me either. It’s done differently which I find undemocratic at times as a lot of haggling and jockeying for position are done behind the scenes by party nominees and insiders. By and large, no fireworks in politics is sometimes good for democracy.
My body was never like before. I’m no longer the young dude I once was, who can work nights upon nights with coffee powering me up on the side. Having health issues, due definitely to the stress and the long nights it had endured, my body just had to complain. Silly me, I was so ambitious. Yet, all the hard work was really never rewarded by the people I was working for.
